Commercial refrigeration

Walk-in coolers and kegerators

The refrigeration half of the name. If you run a restaurant, a bar, a taproom or a store, the box that keeps your product cold is not something that can wait until Monday.

  • Walk-in coolers & freezers

Install, service and repair — including the slow temperature drift that spoils stock before anybody notices it's happening.

  • Kegerators & draft systems

Cooling, lines and controls, so what comes out of the tap is the temperature it's supposed to be.

  • Diagnostics, not guesswork

Finding why a box won't hold temperature, rather than topping up refrigerant and leaving you to find out it didn't work.

How a job goes

Three steps, no runaround

  1. 01

    You call or text

Tell Joshua what it's doing and where you are. A photo of the unit and its model number speeds things up more than you'd think. If it's no heat or no cool, the time of day doesn't matter.

  2. 02

    He finds the actual problem

Diagnosis, not guessing at parts. If it can be fixed, he'll say so. If it isn't worth fixing, he'll say that too — and the estimate on a replacement is free.

  3. 03

    You approve the price

The number comes before the work, not after. Then it gets done, hauled off clean, and backed for 60 days.

Before you call

Tell us what it's doing

A good share of what gets called in turns out to be a filter, a breaker or a thermostat battery. Pick what's happening and we'll tell you straight what it usually means, what's worth checking yourself, and when it's time to pick up the phone.

What it usually means

The system is moving air but not removing heat from it. Most often that's low refrigerant from a leak, a dirty or iced-over coil, or a failed capacitor on the outdoor unit.

Worth checking yourself

  1. Look at the outdoor unit — is the fan spinning?
  2. Check the filter. A clogged one can ice the indoor coil solid.
  3. Feel the big copper line at the outdoor unit. Ice on it means shut the system off.

If there's ice anywhere, switch the system to OFF and the fan to ON to thaw it, then call. Running it iced up can wreck the compressor.

General guidance, not a diagnosis of your system. When in doubt, call — asking costs nothing.

Who you're calling

Small enough that you know who's coming

J & T Services is Joshua Ellis and one technician. That's the whole company.

Which means you're dealing with the people who actually do the work. Nothing gets lost between an office and a truck, nobody turns up on commission trying to sell you equipment you don't need, and the man who quoted the job is the one standing behind it.

Started in 2022, working out of Benson across Johnston, Harnett, Sampson, Wayne, Cumberland & Wake counties. Heating and cooling, gas lines, water heaters, fireplaces, and the commercial refrigeration side — walk-in coolers and kegerators.

If it can be fixed, I'll fix it. If you'd be throwing good money at a system that's done, I'll tell you that instead.

Straight answers

Questions people actually ask

If yours isn't here, call and ask. Joshua would rather talk it through than have you guessing.

Call 910-705-7427
Do you really answer at 2 a.m.?

For no heat and no cool, yes. Those are the calls that can't wait for an appointment slot. For anything that isn't an emergency, call during the day and we'll get you on the schedule.

Do you charge to come look at it?

Estimates on system replacements are free. For a repair or service call, ask when you ring and you'll get the number up front, before anybody drives anywhere.

Is it worth fixing, or should I replace it?

Depends on the age of the system, what failed, and what the repair costs against a new one. As a rough rule, once a repair gets past about a third of replacement cost on a system over ten years old, replacing usually wins. That's a rule of thumb, not an answer — we'll look at yours and tell you which way it actually falls, and the replacement estimate costs you nothing.

What brands do you install?

We're a Goodman dealer, so that's what we fit most often and what we can price best. If you want something else — Trane, Rheem, Carrier, whatever — we can source it. Tell us what you're after.

Do you warranty your work?

60 days on our labor. Equipment carries its own manufacturer warranty on top of that, which varies by brand and by whether it gets registered — we'll walk you through that at install.

Do you offer financing?

Not at the moment. Estimates are free, so at least you'll know the number before you have to make any decisions about covering it.

Can I text you a photo instead of explaining it?

Yes, and it helps. A picture of the unit's data plate with the brand and model number saves real time and sometimes saves a trip.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes — walk-in coolers and freezers, and kegerator and draft systems. Restaurants, bars, taprooms and stores. That's the refrigeration half of the name.

How often should a system be serviced?

Once a year at minimum, twice is better in this climate — cooling in the spring, heating in the fall. We do one-off tune-ups and maintenance agreements, whichever suits you. Filters get changed every one to three months depending on the filter and whether you've got pets.

What areas do you cover?

Benson and the towns around it are home ground. We also run out to Raleigh, Garner, Lillington, Fayetteville and Goldsboro. If your town isn't listed, call anyway — it's usually still a yes.
